Aswan is the gentlest city in Egypt. The Nile widens and slows here, scattered with islands and white sails. Philae Temple was moved stone by stone to save it from the rising lake, Abu Simbel is a few hours south, and the Nubian villages across the water are painted in colours you will not see anywhere else in the country.
