Luxor

Ancient Thebes holds roughly a third of the world's surviving antiquities. The east bank belongs to the living — Luxor and Karnak temples, the corniche, the souk. The west bank belongs to the dead: the Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut's terraced temple, and the Colossi of Memnon standing in a field. Go up in a balloon at dawn at least once.
