Al-Muizz Street runs for a kilometre through Fatimid Cairo and is closed to traffic in the evening. Mosques, madrasas, sabils and merchant houses from the 10th century onward, all still in use.
This is a walking tour — around three kilometres at an easy pace, with plenty of stops.

Comfortable closed shoes and light layers. Sites are dusty and often unshaded, so bring a hat and sunscreen. For mosques and churches, shoulders and knees should be covered, and women should carry a scarf for their hair.
