The Blue Hole is a 130-metre sinkhole a few metres off the shore, ringed by shallow coral. You can snorkel the rim in waist-deep water and look straight down into the dark — no boat required.
Lunch is at one of the Bedouin camps directly on the shoreline, which is as pleasant as travelling in Egypt gets.

Comfortable closed shoes and light layers. Sites are dusty and often unshaded, so bring a hat and sunscreen. For mosques and churches, shoulders and knees should be covered, and women should carry a scarf for their hair.
