An overnight climb up Mount Sinai to watch the sun come up from the summit, then down to the oldest continuously inhabited monastery in the world.
You leave around 11 PM, climb for three hours in the dark, and reach the 2,285-metre summit before dawn. It is cold at the top even in summer — a fleece and a hat are not optional.
The last 750 steps are cut stone and steep. There are camels available for the first two thirds, but the final stretch has to be walked by everyone.

Moderately. It is a long, steady climb rather than a technical one, but it is three hours up in the dark and the last section is 750 uneven stone steps. If you can walk uphill for three hours you will be fine.
St Catherine's is closed to visitors on Fridays, Sundays and Orthodox holidays. We schedule around it, and if the monastery is closed on your date we will tell you before you book.
There is no payment on this website. Send us your booking request, we confirm availability by email or WhatsApp within 24 hours, and you pay your guide in cash on the day. We accept USD, EUR, GBP and Egyptian pounds.

Comfortable closed shoes and light layers. Sites are dusty and often unshaded, so bring a hat and sunscreen. For mosques and churches, shoulders and knees should be covered, and women should carry a scarf for their hair.
